Utica Practice Event
Monday & Tuesday, March 18 & 19, 2024
Malow Jr. High School
6400 25 Mile Rd., Shelby Township
Rocket Launch Criteria
NASA has launch weather guidelines, and so do we.
At 7pm the night before the tournament, we look at the hourly forecast for the beginning of launch time. Launches will be cancelled if the forecast matches ANY of these criteria:
- Ambient temp will be < 32 degrees
- Wind speed will be > 20 mph
- Real Feel temp < 24 degrees
- > 50% chance of precipitation
At launch time, we may still cancel if:
- There is lightning in the area
- Precipitation is active and will continue
The decision to cancel a launch is not an easy one.
We have learned that it is impossible to conduct a consistent and fair tournament when launching in substandard weather conditions.
We will do our best to provide an alternate launch date.
This practice event is open to all registered teams
in the Utica school district, as well as local private school teams.
Event raw scores and team totals have been posted on the Past Scores webpage.
The format of this event has changed substantially from past years. Be certain to review the schedule and other associated information.
Students will not carry testing materials out from each session. Scoring will be conducted by tournament staff and results will be passed to the head coach and be posted on this website.
Alternate Team Members
One additional team member may be added to an Event Team beyond what is allowed by the official event rules.
Teams which are registered as a Second team with Macomb may participate. Second teams have a unique team number assigned by Macomb.
The membership of the participants from the Primary team and Second team should not overlap.
Awards are not given.
Parents and Event Coaches are not allowed in closed event rooms during or after competition.
Head Coaches will receive ZipGrade forms and score sheets at the end of the tournament. These should be retained, awaiting release of the respective Category Indexes after the last practice tournament.
